Thought they were excellent
Helped my dad in his journey.
I was given a block of 6 sessions, which had gaps of up to 3 months between some of them and with the psychiatrists being changed half way through. The second psychiatrists one first meeting was over 40 minutes late (I was his first appointment), got my name wrong and had not read my case files. I had to repeat everything I had previously told the first one which was very upsetting. During these 6 sessions I was given 3 different possible diagnosis's. I was prescribed medication which gave me terrible side effects and after taking for a year had even worse withdrawal symptoms.Because I was drinking and using cannabis at the time I was refused any help, stating my problems were due to this. The second psychiatrist ignored the fact that I had mental health problems since I was 8 years old , the trauma experienced during my childhood and the extended periods of time when I had not drank/used cannabis (4 and 6 years).Being denied any help until I stopped drinking/using cannabis when I was extremely depressed was awful, ignoring that it is very common for people with mental health problems to self medicate, although I understand the impact this can have on a person. The entire process left me feeling totally alone and let down at a time in my life when I was suicidal.
I saw Dr Garcia-Roberts at this 'hospital', if she only cared for her patients as much as her BMW car, they might get well again. I was told I had one diagnosis, which went against previous a psychiatrist's diagnosis. I was then given another diagnosis which was quickly changed and forgotten about by them, now a diagnosis has been given to me which does not fit my behaviour and I am severely unhappy about; getting more and more depressed, the treatment they gave me has not made me better it's made me worse.I can't stand this 'hospital' or it's 'doctors', there is no accountability for their behaviour and I'm screaming out for help, I am willing to put the work in; since working with these doctors for five years, I lost my job; then my career (I was still on a course, when I had a p/t job that was helping me through the course) my confidence has gone down the pan, a lot of my money and hope has also gone down the pan, I just want the right diagnosis and the right treatment, plus a little bit of respect is that too much to ask?
I have to counter the negative comment. I am not going to say mental health services are great in this country (what-so-ever). All the cuts and society not rating mental health issues etc.. But I feel the people at CMHT Kings Park (with what they have) really do there best and i am not sure I would be here without them. I have the best psychiatrist ever (Dr Schrader) and had some great care workers that all do care..
