Edited review. Very disappointing library. Can't count the number of times I've gone to borrow a book to help my studies to find the book is missing. The more popular or useful the book, the more likely it is to be missing.It is a library that can't hold on to it's books, a pretty fundamental error.
"BOURNEMOUTH LIBRARY"........Open plan, spacious, airy, a quiet library, featuring stands, displays, murals, paintings, historic + modernly imaginative, with high views out to the nearby countryside......Music + Instrumental Sound is extensively supported, with books, etc.....You can use the staircase, the lifts to the upper level, even both lifts if you are clever.?......."BOURNEMOUTH LIBRARY", is on 'the triangle', not far from 'exclusively branded' retailers, the Odean Automated Cinema, upper + lower gardens......If you think you can hear Parrots, whilst walking to " BOURNEMOUTH LIBRARY", well you did/can + can find out what they are in the natural history section, (you can visit them on your way home), after a day of comfortable, educative reading, researching......"BOURNEMOUTH LIBRARY"......What else can you find here.?.......
Very rarely do reviews unless its particularly good or bad and i gotta say that the staff i experienced today where some of the most willing to help staff i have ever experienced. I phoned ahead of my visit and was told everything i needed to know on arrival for my purposes. On arrival they continued their exceptional service right untill after i left and found that i had left my charger behind, had it not been for their kindness and friendliness it would have been a pretty bad day. Thankyou
I have been at the library four times, because I wanted to spend some time studying in a place which is supposed to be quiet. Well, all four times I found:- students/people whispering and even talking aloud- babies crying- people using their mobile phone- homeless/junkies burping, farting, coughing and stinking of pee and alcohol, using the library as a shelter without any consideration towards other peopleThe library itself is fine, but it really needs some sort of access control.
Just like someone else said before me, the library itself would be good but it serves as a shelter for beggars, druggies and generally unclean people, some coughing horribly. I understand that it's winter and some kindness should be shown but I'm afraid to make a 2min trip to the loo without taking my full baggage with me and need to avoid some areas completely due to the smell..It's shame because otherwise this place would be perfect for quiet study and work with comfortable tables and chairs and good light.
